Cambodia hails information ties with China, vows further cooperation

 Cambodian Information Minister Khieu Kanharith on Monday spoke highly of the excellent relations and cooperation between Cambodia and China in information sector, pledging to further promote the cooperation for mutual benefits.

Speaking at a meeting with Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia Bu Jianguo, the Minister said the Cambodian Ministry of Information has had a very good relation with the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television of China, and the country's official news agency Agence Kampuchea Presse (AKP) has also closely cooperated with the China's Xinhua News Agency.

The National Television of Cambodia has also maintained good cooperation with China's CCTV, he said, adding that the China- Cambodia Friendship Radio, which is broadcast in Khmer language and covers about 70 percent of the Cambodian population, has also contributed to developing Sino-Cambodian friendship relations.

In addition, he said, the country has sent reporters to visit China every year to further their understanding about Chinese economics, politics, custom, tradition, culture, and daily life.

The minister said in the coming years, the National Television of Cambodia and China's Yunnan TV will jointly invest in a pay TV with about 70 channels, initially covering Phnom Penh and provinces of Siem Reap, Battambang and Kampong Cham.

"These is a good base for us to broaden relations and cooperation between the two countries and peoples," he said. "The comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation between Cambodia and China has made progress from day to day."

Kanharith said the country is considering opening a bureau for Cambodia's state-run TV in Beijing.

Meanwhile, Ambassador Bu said information sector played a very important role to bring closer relations and understanding between the peoples of the two countries and to deepen bilateral friendship relations.

She pledged to help broaden information cooperation between the two countries during her diplomatic mission.
