Eight year 11 and 12 students left to explore Vietnam and Cambodia on Thursday on a World Challenge.
Sports co-ordinator and teacher Joel Morrison said the girls were excited and had been fundraising for nine months.
"A majority of fundraising has been through sausage sizzles, which we have held at various markets, and the Gaia Festival," said Mr Morrison.
"A lot of the girls are boarders and they have put collection tins in the shops from their home towns to collect money as well."
Whilst on their World Challenge, the students will be living at a rural school in Vietnam for eight days where they will choose a project to help the community.
They will also do a five-day hike through the jungle.
"The girls have been preparing for the hike with a training camp on Mt Archer," said Joel.
"It will be a totally new experience. They will be living in hammocks without any access to technology."
World Challenge is a program that works in partnership with schools to aid students in developing crucial life skills such as leadership, teamwork, self-awareness, and compassion.
It offers the chance for students to experience diverse cultures and challenge themselves.
This is the first time the Rockhampton Girls Grammar School has taken part in a World Challenge, but with such a positive response so far, they are already planning the next one.
"We have been in discussion with our current year 10 and 11 students and are planning a trip to Nepal in December next year," Mr Morrison said
