Four-Day Weekend Suggested to Mark HM The Queen's Birthday

Tuesday, July 1, 2014
PHUKET: The Tourism and Sports Ministry has suggested that the National Council for Peace and Order ordain a four-day weekend this year to celebrate Her Majesty the Queen's 82nd birthday anniversary.

Falling on a Tuesday, the Queen's birthday on August 12 would entail workers returning to work on the Monday after the weekend, only to enjoy another holiday on the Tuesday.

The longer holiday will help to boost tourism as well, according to the Tourism Authority of Thailand.

The extended holiday was proposed by TAT senior officials during a meeting with Admiral Narong Pipattanasai, the deputy chairman of the NCPO deputy chairman and Navy commander-in-chief, Thai PBS reported.
